23rd National Symposium on Catalysis

Applied Catalysis in Emerging Technologies for Chemicals

January 17-19, 2018

Royal Orchid Yelhanka, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560065

Welcome To CATSYMP23

Applied catalysis and technologies play a very important role in the well-being of humanity, be it for producing sustainable energy, driving towards a cleaner environment, manufacturing of low cost materials etc. Technologies developed through discoveries in catalysis make a huge impact on the world economy and on mankind. The basic inventions in the field of catalysis need to be bridged with process design and development, with a synergy between scientists, engineers, academia & industry.

In this backdrop, the symposium plans to bring together the researchers in academia and industry to cover the following broad spectrum of topics encompassing heterogeneous catalysis, homogeneous catalysis, photocatalysis, electrocatalysis, organocatalysis and biocatalysis.

The symposium will include plenary / invited talks by eminent international speakers and highly acclaimed national speakers from industry, academia and research institutions. The symposium would like to give a great deal of importance to research students who will be given sufficient opportunity to present their research outcome through Oral/Poster presentations. It is proposed to have three parallel sessions on various topics mentioned.

This symposium aims for disseminating knowledge on the recent discoveries in the field of catalysis encompassing energy, environment and chemicals. There will be an exclusive timing earmarked for Poster session, in order to have thoughtful scientific interactions. The detailed schedule will be made available soon on the new symposium website.

It is also planned to have a Panel Discussion to discuss new challenges and opportunities where catalysis can play a role, as well as to initiate collaborations among institutes/industries.

Catalysis Society of India

The Catalysis Society of India (CSI) was formally founded in March 1973 at Varanasi with Prof. S.K. Bhattacharyya as the president and Prof. J.C. Kuriacose as the secretary. The main mandates of the CSI are to encourage catalysis research in India, to organize professional meetings between researchers, to enhance mutual interactions and to encourage cooperation between industry and academia. The growth of the membership of the CSI is a measure of the growth of catalysis research activity in the country. The present membership of the society is more than 750 compared to 75 in 1974. At the time of the founding of the CSI, the major centers of research in catalysis were just a handful, the IITs (Madras and Kharagpur), PDIL (Sindhri), IIP (Dehradun) and IPCL/RIL (Vadodara). Catalysis research activity has spread to many more organizations during the past 42 years. During the last three decades, the catalysis community in India has made significant strides both in applied and fundamental research. Many catalysts and processes has been developed and commercialized, notably by IIP, PDIL, IPCL/RIL, NCL, IICT and ACC in petroleum refining, petrochemicals manufacture, fertilizers production and fine chemicals syntheses. In basic research also, members of the CSI have made significant discoveries in catalysis, resulting in publications in prestigious journals such as Nature, Science, Angew Chem and JACS.

CSI-Bengaluru chapter was established in 2016 by eminent catalysis scientists from various research organizations in Bengaluru like Poornaprajna Institute of Scientific Research, SABIC, SHELL, HPCL, JNCASR, St. Joseph College, IISc and Jain University. The Society is actively working on promoting research in the area of catalysis and bringing together researchers from academia and industry on one platform in Bengaluru by conducting conferences, meetings, workshops, invited talks etc.

Following areas will be covered in CATSYMP23:
